Why do we always want the quick fix?

All I ever see, and for that part I am the same way we want the quick fix for everything. We do not want to wait for anything. I have to say the quick fix is why we are having so big a problem with our governments, and our health. We do not have the patience to do it right. Weight loss, weight maintenance, and fitness is not about doing it quickly and going back to our lives the way they were so we can eat all of the junk foods we were eating, and stretching out on the couch watching endless TV or movies. Weight loss, weight maintenance, and fitness is a slow and sometime painful process of changing our lifestyle for the good. We need to realize that if we lose the weight slowly by eating correctly, not dieting, and do activities that we enjoy and can do the rest of our lives we will have a better chance of maintaining that weight loss and keep ourselves fit and healthy as possible.  We need to erase from our brains the thoughts and the words quick and fix. We need to impress upon ourselves the words, slow, patient, patience, and doing it correctly. We also need to learn to at least for ourselves and our families and close friends, be good to ourselves, it is not selfish to put yourself first when it comes to your health and fitness. Life is short, we need to live it as healthy as we can. We have to eat correctly and be activity to do that.  You noticed that I say be activity and activaties and not exercise. To me exercise is work, acitivity is fun and sometimes exciting. And activity can be exercise with out you say so. I love to walk, hike, and ride my bike. To me that is being active, it is not exercise. To me exercise is weight lifting, and going to the gym, and I dislike both of them. I want to be outside enjoying Mother Nature and getting as much sunshine and vitamin D as I can.  So lets slow down and lose or weight slowly, and the closer you get to your goal the slower you need to lose the weight so you have a better chance to keep it off. Set you goal weight to be the maximum you should weigh, then in your head and write it in your journal write down the lowest weight you feel you should weigh, normally about 5 to 10 pounds should be the range. And try to maintain your weight within that range. Most doctors say that you should stay within a 10 pound range over the course of a year. And it is unhealthy to have larger swings in your weight. And lets pick the activities that you enjoy and do not think of as work, which is what exercise is to me. And get out and be active.

Finally

We were awaken Wednesday morning by our Min Pin warning us that I our hot water heater was leaking. Called our applicance insurance to get it taken care of and we just now this afternoon got the hot water heater replaced. I had forgotten what it was like to have to take a sponge bath, and shaving in cold water sucks. I am glad the thing is fixed but I am so upset with them taking so long to fix it. We had the same issues a few winters ago with our heating system, and of course it went out when we had one of the coldest days in a very long time. There is no need in the insurance taking so long in approving the work then finding someone to do it.

I have found a great Linux OS for my old Dell XPS Laptop

I have an old XPS-L501 laptop that has been over heating with Windows 10 on it. And I have tried all of the popular Linux Distros, and then started looking at some of the not so popular Distros. I could give you a list but I have decided just to say that the Distro that I have decided on is KaOS, it is a small distro that is using only the KDE Desktop. It is build from the Linux kernel, and the use of the paceman application builder. It does not have a huge number of applications like the big Distros but it does have the ones that I need. Libreoffice, and Google Chrome. And I am able to install Calibre Ebook Manager from the command line. Most Distros that have KDE Desktop are slow but this OS has been tuned to use KDE and KDE only so it is extremely fast and KDE is very fast also. Also it is the only Linux Distro that I have been able to find that the sleep mode, and hypernation mode works without and issues. Also this distro gets all the latest updates, almost daily. It is a rolling update OS meaning install it once and then keep it updated an you will always be up to date. I have not had any crashes and it has never failed to wake up from sleep or hypernate.

Just a short note this morning

I am back below my weight goal. It feels so great to be back below 200. Yes I know I have a couple of my doctors that will not be happy until I weigh 184 which puts me at a BMI of normal weight for the average person my height, but I am not that average person. I now weigh 199 and I have a percent of body fat of 17.5% that is right in the middle of what I should be caring for my age and height. I also went below a BMI of 27 which was another goal for me. Yes I know I am still above that all magical BMI of 25 but I will be way to skinny and have too little a percent of body fat if I go that low. I am wishing to get down to somewhere between 190 and 195 so I have the headroom I need to stay below 200. There will always be days of too much salt that will cause me to have water weight for a few days. And there are the holidays and special times I will over do my eating and I need some room to work with. Life is good, and I am not having to take any prescription medications. Which for someone that is almost 70 is great.

Dear God: Please wake the people of this country up and open their eyes and hearts to what this world is really like.

It seems that so many today have thrown common sense to the wind. And way to many of us open our mouths and say stupid things before our brains if we have any anymore has engaged.
The election is over if we care and love our country we have to get behind our president and make this country better. We have to at least give him a chance. He is not going to always get it right, but I see someone for a change that is doing his best to but this country and the citizens of this country first. Something we have not had in too long a time.
We have as a country and as the citizens of this country been brainwashed by all of the foreigners that have been brought into this country to teach or kids, and all of the foreign goods that now rule this country. We as a people have gotten lazy and have become slaves to other countries. We do work harder than other countries and longer hours, but what do we do that really counts. We have sent all or most of the manufacturing out of this country, most of the corporations that claim to be American companies, do not manufacture any thing or very little in this country anymore. And the ones that do use robots for the work. We are going to become second class citizens to foreign powers and to robots. Is that what we really want as a people.

How do we succeed in this game of weight loss and maintenance?

How do we succeed in this game of weight loss and maintenance? I have been thinking about this for a long time, and I have been practicing and working at it even longer. Weight loss and weight maintenance is like everything in life it is what you make of it. We all have our wins and failures. We celebrate the wins, and we learn from our failures and keep trying, at least that is the way I was raised. I see so many these days that love to win but never seem to be able to except a failure without giving up. Folks we never learn from our wins we only learn from the failures, but we must be able to analyze the data that was created by that failure, and the win for that matter.  What am I saying? I also was raised to keep a journal of my life, to write it all down. Somedays that is just a quick note not even a full sentence, sometimes that could be a page of information. So, for me the habit of journaling has made it easy for me to log everything I eat. But for too many that is a chore that they do not want to take the time to do. I have learned over the years that my journal is my history, it has saved me from getting unneeded medical care, it has prevented me for getting in to trouble with the law and most of all as a child it kept me out of trouble with my parents and grandparents. If we would all get in the habit of recording our lives, we would learn so much about ourselves. And who knows that could even lead to a best seller someday.
Now to my next point of succeeding at weight loss, never ever give up. We all have the ups and downs. We have our wins and losses. We can learn from both if we log and keep a journal but if we do not then we do not really know what we did wrong. Loseit offers us a lot of great tools if we only use them. We get weekly and even daily reports. The daily logs go into databases that we can view and download. We can use a spreadsheet to look at the day and even create our own charts.

So, take advantage of these tools and make the best of your weight loss and maintenance. This is all part of your life style change that you must commit to.

Health and fitness

I have been eating below my BMR for some time, not really because I was trying but just because it has been all I felt like eating. There are days that I will eat well above my BMR but only once a week or so. But I have been trying to eat more and at least get to eating 125 calories on average above my BMR. I am not there yet. But I am slowly getting there. I know I must be careful and not get to the point of gaining weight. I am still between 8 and about 18 pounds above what I need to weigh. My goal and the thinking of my dietitian and myself is that of easing my way to the weight I need to be at, and not be at a point of eating that much more to prevent weight loss once I get to my goal. I have my goal set for 195 that is a weight that I managed to maintain from the summer of 2012 to Christmas of 2013. And now, I am at a weight that I managed to be at or below from February of 2012 until early February of 2014.  My goal of 195 will become my maximum that I want to be at, and I am going to try to go as much as 10 pounds below that.
This coming Thursday I will have my lab work for my physical that is on the Monday after my lab work. I will also be getting another BMR test to see where I am at, as well as retested for any food allergies. I am wanting to be able to eat a wide verity of foods, which is the way I was raised. As of now I am not eating bread, except cornbread. I do eat wild, and brown rice, and potatoes once or twice a week without any issues. I also eat cheerios and a high protein Nature Valley cereal. I am back to eating the fruits that I love without issues. Wheat still gives me some issues but not bad if I do not over do it. I try to stay away from as much processed foods as possible and I do not eat fast foods, well I do cheat if I am on the road traveling but that is not that often. I have come to find out I can cheat at times and enjoy it if I do not make it a habit. And I also believe that I should never completely deprive myself of the foods I enjoy and were raised to eat, I just must learn to limit them.

I do not recommend eating below the BMR it is just something I feel into by mistake and I am now trying to correct it. I also recommend getting tested to find out what your real BMR is. The calculators that are used to determine BMR, using sex, age and weight, are only averages like the calculators for BMI they are not that great. If you really want your weight loss to stick and you want to be healthy and fit do yourself the favor and get the test. It will pay off down the road.
