Hilly Walk in the Cold

I guess you could call it cabin fever, but I went out and walked in the cold air, 27 degrees. The walk was up and doing the hills here at my sisters. I did about 3 miles and it shows about 28 floors of climbing.  I need to get use to it seeing we are going to move up to this area. The walk was hard and did get me out of my comfort zone, which is a good thing. It did not get me over worked, and I did not lose my breath doing it. I found it to be just a very good workout for a change. I plan on doing the walk again. I will be colder than today and I plan on going even farther than today.

I am happy so far with me eating. Even with me enjoying some of my sister’s cranberry cake. I know she makes it from the recipe of our grandmother. It will be interesting to see how I am doing weight wise when I get a chance to weigh this coming Friday morning.

I am ending 2017 with a weight lose of 17 pounds, and with having walked 5,110,000 steps, which is approximately 2,450 miles and about 667 hours of walking for the year of 2017.  I have worn-out 10 pairs of walking shoes. And burned approximately 187,300 calories. Yes, it has been a good year for my health.

Saturday was cold but warmer than today

We went looking at houses and found one we really like except for it having 2 levels. But that is to be excepted where we are looking. We have other homes to see as soon as we can get permission to view them. But it is going to be hard to find any that meet our needs that is better than the one we saw yesterday afternoon. There was one other home that would have need nice if it wasn’t on a golf course which means we cannot have a fence for the dogs. It was a single level and it would have had to have the white carpet replaced with a wood floor.

On the eating front I did very good yesterday and even Friday. When I get back and I am able to weigh myself I do expect to see water weight gain. It always happens when I travel.

It is New Year’s Eve and we are just trying to find a new home and to stay warm. No partying for us, but I believe my sister and brother and law are going out for a while tonight.

Made the drive to Hot Springs

The trip to Hot Springs, Arkansas was not that bad. And I even got my standing ring, and my move ring closed. I did not meet my exercise ring.

Linda is still not feeling good, and I am getting a cold I believe. It is going to be really cold here New Year’s Eve and Day and for that matter the hold next week. But we will be off to see houses this afternoon. It just is not looking that promising anymore. But we just have to stay positive that things will work at for the best.

On the intuitive eating front I am impressed with my eating yesterday. I believe I did great. I was even under budget by loseit and apple health standards. I even managed to get bonus calories for my loading and unloading of the car and what little walking I did. Wow I had one of the highest resting calorie days that I have ever had so I guess driving is being active.

Internet and even cell phone connectivity here is poor. I will do my best to post as a can.

It is cold outside

Up early this morning, took Buddy, Misty, and Dusty to the Vets for their checkups and grooming.

The buyers are coming over for a walk thru of the house, and the Appraisal is also today. And both of us have colds. Linda is really down with it. And I feel like I am coming down too.

My weight is back down a pound this morning, back to 188. I know it was water weight gain due to too much salt. I hope I drop back down to about 187 like I did once before.

I have gotten over the shock of eating what ever and how much I want to eat and now I am back to eating under 2000 calories a day. Yes, I still log and I will continue to log, maybe always log, but I know I will log until I completely figure out intuitive eating.

Today is really going to be busy we have everyone here this morning and we have to pick up the guys and also pack and shop. I do not see me having a chance to walk today but if I can I will.

A Cold Walk this afternoon and other thoughts from my walk

The wind was strong out of the North and the real temperature was 39 degrees, I am not sure what the wind chill was but it must have been in the 20s. My walk today was a short one, all I was trying to do was get my steps, exercise, and move rings to close. I should get enough active calories burned today seeing I still have to sweep and mop the floors. We have the buyers over tomorrow for a walk through and we have the appraisal also tomorrow, and our realtor is coming over because the buyers have added more earnest money to the pot than was in the original contract so we have to sign to acknowledge that.

If you say you cannot do something you have already failed.

I hear and I read all the time I can’t do this or that. Oh, ye of little faith is what I think and want to say back to anyone that says that. “Can’t can never do anything” is something that my parents, and grandparents always told me. You have to “believe you can” if you ever want to do anything in life. I see the ones on Loseit that say I just can’t lose the weight and keep it off, well they have lost the battle at that point and they have not really even tried to lose the weight or manage their weight.  I have so many tell me they cannot eat intuitively and I beg to ask have you tried and really believed you could or are you saying you can’t do it without ever trying.

I have this to say and again it is what my parents and grandparents taught me. “If you believe you can” then you have won the battle before you have even started. We all fight our battles, and wars, we may lose a few battles but that does not mean we have lost the war. A battle is what we do when we try to do something, sometimes we get it right and we have won the battle, sometimes we get it wrong and we lost a battle, but that does not mean we lost the war. It means we regroup and we fight the next battle with the knowledge we got from making the mistake of losing a battle. That is what life is really all about.

I have lost so many battles with my weight that I can no longer count how many. You can win the war by losing all but one battle folks. And to be honest we only need that real win when it comes to losing and maintaining our weight. We have to get lose it, then we have to keep it off. It is not two battles we are fighting it is only one.

What am I saying? If you truly want to lose the weight and keep it off, you have to change your lifestyle. You cannot go on a diet to lose the weight then eat differently to maintain that weight loss. You have to come to understand that what ever you did to lose the weight is what you have to do the rest of your life to keep that weight off. If you do it correctly when you get to the weight your body needs to be at you will be eating the food, and the number of calories that you need to be to keep that weight off the rest of your life. If you do not except this fact then you have failed already.

While we are all different, what it really means is that we all have our likes and dislikes of the food we love and enjoy. We have to learn to make those foods a part of your lifestyle. It can be done I am doing it. I have found that as long as I do not deny myself the foods I love and the foods my body needs that I eat the amount of food that will maintain my weight. Now with that said, that does not mean that I am maintaining that magical weight that the BMI charts say is right, it means I am maintaining the weight that my body knows has its happy weight. We have to learn to except that fact our bodies know best not some book or chart or even your doctors.
We have to learn to respect our bodies for what it is and be happy with the shape that nature gave us.

Have a nice day everyone and until next time I believe this is enough to think about.

Its COLD outside

It is 39 degrees this morning ant that is the high for today. There is also a possibility of showers. Do I plan on walking? Yes,  if I possibly can. My wife is sick, I believe she has fever this morning again.

I have been keeping my mouth shut on Loseit, it is hard not to say that all of the dieters all doing it wrong, even the ones you would thing by now would know better. But it just goes to show how deep the dieting craziness has been sold to this country and the world. Sure we all need to control our eating habits, but to be on this or that diet is just crazy. We destroy our metabolism by depriving ourselves of the food and nutrition that our bodies need. We also destroy our bodies by over doing the exercises we do. All we need is commonsense eating habits and being active. I love walking and it makes me feel great. And what so many do not get that depriving the body of the nutrition it needs is what makes us eat way to much. Our hormones go into high great to get the nutrition it needs and forces us to eat until our bodies get that nutrition. And what is the craziest part even most doctors and other medical people that should know better do not know or understand this, and if they do they sure do not tell us the truth about it. I even got talking to my dietitian, and she admitted that dietitians, and nutrition specialist follow the intuitive eating, and do not even follow the recommendations that they tell their patients to do. It all goes back to do as I say and not as I do.

Also we all are programed that we should be a certain weight for our heights, regardless of our body make up. This is so stupid. You can be the perfect weight for your height and still be over weight and fat, or you can be under weight and way too under fat. Our bodies have what my dietitian  calls its happy set point, are weight range. It is the weight that if we all eat the foods we enjoy and we eat to the needs of our bodies we will naturally stay at that weight. Yes, it more than likely will not be the weight that you have been told you need to weigh, or the weight you have decided in your brain you need to be, but it is the weight that your body is happiest at and it is also the weight that it is the healthiest at.

So what does it take to be the healthiest you can be and the happiest your body can be. Do not deprive yourself of the foods and nutrition you need. Listen to your body and eat what it tells you, you need to eat. The only time this would be unwise is if you have food allergies. The other very interesting thing once you do this you lose the need to binge or over eat. You enjoy your life, your food and you enjoy your friends and family more.

I just wish more people could get the diet disease out of them. It is a disease that was created by our food, diet, fitness, and yes, even our medical industries. And they sold it to our governments, because the politicians love the money that the industries pay them to make policy and laws to better the industries even when it is destroying its citizens.

Well, I feel so much better now that I got that out of my system.

Cold damp and windy walk and other thoughts

I managed to get a walk in today it was a mile shorter than my normal route, and about 400 calories instead of about 470 calories burned. But it is enough to allow me to close all of my activity rings. Not sure if it will be enough to get me my calorie bonus are not. It was really a wet work just a heavy fog and not so much mist or rain. But my sweats were really damp when I finished.

Just doing laundry and other chores to get ready for travel to Arkansas. It is really going to be cold and maybe a little snow or ice up there this weekend, and it will not be much better here. And the issue my wife and I have is that our winter clothes are all packed and in the storage PODS. And the PODS were packed so long ago, we would not have any ideal where they are in the PODS or even which POD they are in. We will have to make do by layering our cloths that we wear.

My eating intuitively is still moving on. It is a huge learning process and I know this trip is going to be a huge test for me.

Cold wet today and most of the next 2 weeks

I woke up to cold and wet this morning, I also woke up to a pound of extra water weight. I am sure it is water weight due to the amount of salt I have had over the last few days.  I can really say it is Christmas time and it should be time with the family and friends. This whole year has been sad for my wife and I trying to sell this home, and wanting to move. It has cost us lots of money with so much in storage. And it has cost us so much stress.

I really cannot believe I have managed to lose the weight I needed and even a little more, with the stress that I have had this year. I believe it has to do with my faith that God will provide, our needs.

I am still doing very well with the intuitive eating my weight is really good, and my calories are hanging in at an average of 2000 calories a day. I just wish I had kept my salt level down. But I have not noticed it in my hands or feet. My blood pressure is a little higher than normal. I will have to work on that, but I believe it has a lot to do with the stress of the selling of our home.

I do now remember what else I was going to say. My hearing loss is getting to the point that I hate to be around more than a couple of people at a time. And I can no longer hear what people are saying when there is any of type of noise in the area. The TV has to be muted if I am going to understand what my wife is saying. I no longer can understand what anyone is saying to me if I do not also know they are talking to me so I can read their lips too. Hearing loss sucks, please take care of you're hearing.

15 'Health Foods' That Aren't Actually That Good For You

Eating healthy can often feel like torture in a country whose crowning achievement in food is the Crunchwrap Supreme.
To make matters worse, a lot of supposedly healthy foods aren't actually very good for you.
With that in mind, Business Insider asked Andy Bellatti, a registered dietitian and the cofounder of Dietitians for Professional Integrity, which "health foods" you should skip on your next trip to the grocery store.
1. Juice
When you juice fresh fruits and veggies, you remove their fibre, the key ingredient that keeps you feeling full and satisfied until your next meal.
What you keep is the sugar. In the short term, a high-sugar, low-protein diet means hunger pangs, mood swings, and low energy. In the long term, you can lose muscle mass, since muscles rely on protein.
2. Coconut oil
Coconut oil is roughly identical to olive oil in overall calorie and fat content.
But as opposed to a tablespoon of olive oil, which has just 1 gram of saturated fat and more than 10 grams of healthy mono- or polyunsaturated fats, a tablespoon of coconut oil has a whopping 12 grams of saturated fat and just 1 gram of healthy fat.
Experts suggest avoiding saturated fats because they have been linked with high cholesterol and a risk of Type 2 diabetes.
3. Agave nectar
Once upon a time, many health proponents (including Dr. Oz) suggested swapping your sugar for agave, since it has a low-glycemic index and doesn't lead to the impromptu spikes in blood sugar (aka glucose) that happen after consuming plain white sugar.
But while agave isn't high in glucose, it is high in another type of sweetener – fructose (the same stuff in high-fructose corn syrup). Some recent studies suggest that diets high in fructose are linked with several health problems, including heart disease.
It doesn't so much matter which sweetener you use as how much you're using. "Sugar is sugar is sugar," says Bellatti.
4. Egg whites
Lots of people began avoiding egg yolks after nutrition experts suggested that eating cholesterol was bad for you because it raised your cholesterol levels.
But there's good news. A growing body of research shows that for the vast majority of people, dietary cholesterol (that comes from foods you eat) doesn't really have much of an effect on your blood cholesterol. So unless you have high cholesterol, ditch those nasty egg-white-only alternatives. Good morning, eggs Benedict!
5. Low-fat products
We've been led to believe that low-fat products will lead to increased overall health and weight loss. However, an eight-year trial involving nearly 50,000 women suggested that that's highly unlikely.
When roughly half of them went on a low-fat diet, they didn't lower their risk of breast cancer, colorectal cancer, or heart disease. Plus, they didn't lose much weight, if any.
New recommendations show that healthy fats, like those from nuts, fish, and avocados, are actually good for you in moderation. So add them back into your diet if you haven't already.
6. Granola
If you're like me, you associate anything crunchy and sold in bags in the health-food aisle with nature-loving hikers – people who get lots of exercise and keep their bodies lean and healthy. But most granola is no health food.
In fact, it's packed with sugar and calories – a cup contains about 600 calories or the same amount as two turkey-and-cheese sandwiches or about four cereal bars.
7. Almond butter
Everything from Gwyneth Paltrow's daily breakfast smoothie to the grocery store around the corner now seems to have almond butter, but the stuff is incredibly pricey.
We asked Bellatti whether there's any reason to use almond butter instead of plain old peanut butter, which is about four times less expensive.
"It can just be peanut butter!" Bellatti said. "If the only ingredients are peanuts and salt, that totally works. It's still going to have your protein, healthy fats, and vitamin E."
8. Multivitamins
Nearly half of American adults take vitamins every day. Yet decades' worth of research hasn't found any justification for this pill-popping habit.
We do need small amounts of vitamins to survive, of course – without vitamins such as A, C, and E, for example, we'd have a hard time turning food into energy, and could develop conditions like rickets or scurvy.
But research shows we get more than enough of these substances from what we eat, so there's no need for a pill.
9. Gluten-free bread
Unless you're one of the 1 percent of Americans who suffer from celiac disease, gluten probably won't have a negative effect on you.
In fact, studies show that most people suffer from slight bloating and gas when they eat, whether they consume wheat or not. So go ahead and eat that bagel.
10. Almond milk
Dairy alternatives have been surging in popularity in the past few years, especially almond and soy milk. Yet almond milk is practically devoid of nutrients.
By themselves, almonds are protein powerhouses. But by volume, a typical glass of almond milk is only about 2 percent almonds and contains almost no protein. And all the vitamins in it are added.
So if you're looking for a truly healthy alternative, opt for soy, skim, or low-fat milk.
11. Bottled water
Bottled water is not cleaner or healthier than most tap water in the US. Yet we spend more than $US100 billion on the bottled good every year globally.
Elizabeth Royte writes in "Bottlemania: How Water Went on Sale and Why We Bought it" that 92 percent of the America's 53,000 local water systems meet or exceed federal safety standards and are at least as clean and often cleaner than bottled water.
(Residents of areas with lead contamination in their water, however, should opt for the bottled stuff.)
12. Detoxes
No one needs to detox. Unless you've been poisoned, you already have a super-efficient system for filtering out most of the harmful substances you eat. That means you don't need to buy any "cleansing" juices or "detox" teas.
"There's nothing about these products that's detoxifying, nor is there any food that's detoxifying," says Bellatti.
Your built-in cleaning system is made of two toxin-bashing organs: the liver and kidneys. While our kidneys filter our blood and remove waste from our diet, our livers process medications and detoxify any chemicals we ingest. Paired together, these organs make our bodies natural cleansing powerhouses.
13. Himalayan salt
The distinctive pink hue of Himalayan salt can be traced to the tiny amount of iron oxide, or rust, in the pebbles. The salt also contains small amounts of calcium, potassium, iron, and magnesium, and fractionally lower amounts of sodium than regular table salt. But is it worth the price?
"Yes, the pink hue comes from minerals but the content is close to nil," says Bellatti. "Nobody should be looking for minerals in things like sugar or salt!
"Just because it's Himalayan crystal salt, you can't just use more of it or think it wouldn't have the same effects as other salts would. Understand that it's still salt."
14. Coconut water
This $US4-a-serving beverage is not a panacea for everything from post-workout dehydration to cancer. Yes, coconut water is a great source of potassium and other vitamins and minerals.
But it will do your body just as good to drink a glass of water and snack on a piece of fresh fruit.
15. Sports drinks
We've been wrongly convinced that we need sugar water to prepare for a workout and "refuel" after hitting the gym.
In reality, exercise scientists recommend drinking water and eating or drinking 20 grams of protein, since studies suggest that helps recondition and build muscles.

Wonderful Walk this afternoon

Another good walk it was sunny but cool, my pace was a little slower than it has been but I really did nothing push it. The neighborhood was full of cars and people enjoying their friends and family. We are having a simple meal seeing we will have our Christmas the first weekend in January.

I have had way too much salt this last couple of weeks so I may have a loss after I get the extra water weight off. Also will have to see how this trip plays out. This trip should be a good test for my intuitive eating.

Merry Christmas and a some thoughts from me

Merry Christmas everyone enjoy this day and praise God for Sending Jesus.

Today is a sunny day but it is cold this morning for this area. I will do my walk a little later in the day. I find my day goes better if I do my walks.

Since I have been doing my best to stick with intuitive eating I find that my loseit chart for Over and under food calories has stopped being a sign wave and has become almost a flat line. I am leveling out at just about 2000 calories a day. I when I was working hard a counting calories everyday I was always having high and low calorie days. I could never get the balance that I have now.

Something I noticed this morning and I have to say I do not understand it. My blood pressure is lower than it normally is and I know I have had too much salt over the last week. And I have been under a lot of stress with the contracts on this home, and my wife and I have been stressed at each other also. I can only say that what I believe saves me is that I do really sleep good at night, and I wish my wife could.

My wife has a tradition that I know we will follow of doing French toast for breakfast, but we will be having Cornish hens for dinner. You see we will not be having our real Christmas until the weekend after New Year’s due to most of the family working retail.

Again Merry Christmas everyone

And the race has started!

Well, we got the offer on Tuesday or Wednesday morning I cannot remember for sure at this point. We made a counter-offer, and it was excepted Thursday night. Friday we had to get papers signed, and Saturday the house inspector came and spent most of the day. This coming Thursday the buyers will be here from Arizona to walk thru the house which is great it will give us a chance to show them what we have done and changed. Also, on Thursday all of our guys (our dogs) go to the Vet for their annual checkups and dental. Then Friday morning it is off to Arkansas to hopefully get our new home located and the process started.

New Year’s Plan for my health!

I will be doing what I did for 2017 and I will start a new plan in loseit, the plan will have me maintaining this time. With my weight goal at 190, and my starting weight what every it is that morning or the closest that I can get to the first of January seeing I will be out of town.
I will stick to my intuitive eating and just see how this trip plays out with it. I will have limited and sometimes no internet for logging and posting on here so I will take my notes and save it to when I can post them.

Intuitive eating!

Here is what intuitive eating means to me in its truest form:  I have come to love food again. I have come to respect myself and my body for what I am and what my body shape is. I have excepted that I cannot always eat perfectly. I am learning to except that my body will find its happy weight. I believe that it is the excepting that takes away most of the stress, and makes live fun again.

Merry Christmas everyone on and have a wonderful New Year. I will post as I can and as I have things I want to say.

Today is mostly sunny and cold

Today is much better then yesterday and cold for us here in Central Texas. The house inspector is due here this morning and we had to jump to get paperwork signed before Sunday. I knew this would happen, I had a dream that the house would sell at Christmas about 2 weeks ago.

My walk yesterday afternoon was cold but and damp I did not get wet except with sweat. I seem to alway sweat when I walk regardless of the weather. I did my normal route but my pace was faster by about 5 minutes for the distance. Strange what cold air will do to motivate you. Over all I did not get any adjustment on Loseit yesterday but that is okay since I was trying to stay warm most of the day.

My weight was 188 this morning, I believe mostly due to salt the last few days due to having soups to eat. But soup is our go to food when it is cold.

I do a lot of research and one of the interesting things I have read in multiple places is that if you are at a normal weight when you become 21 or stop growing then over the course of your life and normally by age 50 you should gain about 20 pounds, this is a healthy weight and should be no problem. At 21 years on I weighed 168 and now my weight seems to be settling in at 188.

Also an interesting point, years ago I read it is Different for Men, it was written by a person that was CEO for Weight Watchers for a time, but he was seeing that Weight Watchers was mostly dealing with women’s weight issues and left and went on to set up his own clinic for men. I believe the clinic is in Canada. I have read the book about 3 times over the years. He was still a believer in the Weight Watchers point system for a while then he went on to say that about 2000 calories a day was right for most mean to lose and maintain their weight. I still log on loseit and I do not pay close attention to my calories except when I look at my loseit report from the day before, and guess what I am settling in on just about 2000 calories as my average.

As for as myself this intuitive eating is starting to really catch on with me. I am feeling so much better physically and mentally too. I still have to make myself slow down when eating so I feel my fullness but it is beginning to be more the norm than not. It also, helps that we do not place the food on the table and take what we want, we fix our plates and take the plates to the table, and any leftovers go into making a meal for later. Breakfast is never a problem for me, and for lunch I am normally just snacking on fruits and nuts. Dinner can still be an issue, but with us making our plates up before putting them on the table helps a lot. One thing I am going to have to watch and be careful of is that I am allowing myself to have an evening snack if I feel like it.

Life is about living, loving, learning, enjoying ourselves. Sure we have to work most of our lives, but I have always been lucky to have jobs that I enjoyed. The key to life is enjoyment of what you do. And also life is about believing in being a good and moral person, for me that means believing in God.

It finally happened!

We have a contract on our home, after almost a year we are finally selling our home. Now the real works starts, we have to find our new home and pack and move. I know we need to sell this home due to the cost of the taxes here. But I am not really ready for all the hard work. Today my thoughts are running wild due to it raining and it being just before Christmas, and now having a contract on the house. My nerves are going crazy, the only way to quiet them is to be able to go for a walk and it is cold and raining.

On the food front all is well so far. I guess I will be doing weight workouts again today. Last night’s meal was a wonderful homemade broccoli and cheese casserole, I have not eaten that much at one time in a long time, and I am feeling a little stuffed even this morning. My weight is the same as yesterday so no damage down, and the calories was not high, except for the cheese. I know there must have been a lot of salt from something in the casserole more than likely the mushroom soup, because I feel somewhat water logged this morning.

It is raining this morning, and we have a new cold front that just moved in with another coming in Christmas Eve morning. I have looked at the hour by hour and I am not seeing where I am going to be able to walk but I sure hope so.
